Pre-season match report: Stade Brest 1-2 RCD Mallorca

Salva Sevilla and Víctor Mollejo are on target as our unbeaten pre-season form continues

Salva Sevilla and Víctor Mollejo were on target as we overcame Stade Brest 2-1 at the Stade Francis-Le Blé to extend our run of consecutive victories to five games throughout pre-season.

Luis García Plaza remained committed to rotating his starting XI to give players throughout the squad minutes. Manolo Reina’s slight muscular issue meant he was unable to travel and Leo Román continued in goal.

We were the stronger side throughout the opening exchanges and our early dominance almost paid dividends when Ángel, Salva Sevilla and Jordi Mboula combined in the opposition box before the latter was tripped and awarded a penalty. Salva Sevilla was handed spot-kick responsibilities and calmly dispatched the ball from 12-yards out to give us the lead after 11 minutes.

Leo was called into action towards the end of the first half in an opening 45 minutes with few chances, but some fine reflexes ensured we headed into the break with a slender advantage.

Numerous changes after the restart injected fresh impetus into the game, although the hosts levelled matters in the 63rd minute when Romain Faivre produced a fine piece of individual play to beat the outstretched Leo.

The scoreline was not to remain deadlocked for long as Mollejo provided an instant response when he reacted first to Joan Sastre’s effort to restore our lead eight minutes later.

There were to be no more goals from a tightly-contested fixture as our preparations for our league opener against Real Betis in two weeks’ time continue with a visit to SD Huesca.
