Sporting director Pablo Ortells spoke with the media after our pre-season camp in Marbella came to an end. Find out what he had to say about the squad, transfer window and plans for the season. 

Team atmosphere

“A breath of fresh air has come in with Luis (García) at the helm. We’re building that team spirit and unity among everyone at the club. We all share the same goal. We also want the fans to stand behind the team.”

Impressions from the pre-season matches

“These are pre-season matches. It’s important to win to maintain a positive mindset, but the best part is seeing the results of our day-to-day work. We’re trying to play according to our game plan and take the initiative. The players are adapting well.”

The new signings

“I think they’re doing well; they’re getting their minutes. They’re very engaged and committed to the group. Preseason is a time to get playing time and get to know each other. Above all, I see them happy and eager."

Possible new forward

“Generally speaking, a few more players will arrive. We’re in the middle of the transfer window and trying to build a competitive roster. Some players may arrive, and others may leave.”

Samu Costa

“We are currently negotiating with a club regarding Samu, and the deal will go through once all parties have reached an agreement.”

Johan Mojica

“As of today, all players under contract with the club are required to return. Mojica and Samu have had longer vacations due to the World Cup, and they will rejoin the team next week.”

Jan Virgili

“He’s happy here, and as the coach said, having a full season and playing a key role is good for his development. He’s happy here; we’re counting on him, and we hope to keep him with us. We want him to stay, and we’ve made that clear to him, but it’s a situation we’ll have to see how it plays out on the transfer market.”

Sergi Darder

“I don’t know what his entourage is saying. He’s wanted to stay from the beginning, and he’s an example to everyone because of his commitment. As a player, he’s indispensable, and I haven’t heard anything about a possible departure.”

Antonio Raillo

“We’re counting on our captain. He’s been with us for many years, and we’re thrilled that he’s staying.”

Possible Signings

“There are players we want to bring in to strengthen the roster. I never mention names because they belong to other clubs. Whenever we can, we’ll try to strengthen the roster.”

Atmosphere at the Trofeu Ciutat de Palma

“I always hope the fans will stand behind the team. We’re the first ones who have to do our part to get people excited about the team. I see a good atmosphere. We already have more than 18,000 season-ticket holders, and we need the fans to come together as one. The fans always rise to the occasion.”

On center backs

“We have five center backs, but there could be players coming in and going out. Over the next month, we’ll see how the roster shapes up.”
