Mateo Joseph, Jan Virgili, Martin Valjent and Jagoba Arrasate reflected on our 3-1 win against Sevilla. Find out what the boss and our players had to say below:
Mateo Joseph:
On the victory: What a victory. We knew this was a very difficult field, that they were coming in with the arrow pointing upwards, and we showed what we were capable of when we put in that energy, that desire. I want to thank the fans, because they were spectacular throughout the match. The team was also incredible. This is what we see in training, and if we can translate it into the match like today, there will be more days like this, I'm sure.
On the 10 minutes of goals: We players know that in those final stretches of the match, the most things happen, the most chances, and it's where you have to be fresh. You have to be there, and we were extremely focused, winning many duels. I'm very happy because, as I said, what we do in training has been demonstrated, and we have to continue along these lines.
On self-criticism: That's what it's all about, trying to improve every action. I've tried to do that, but maybe next week it'll be the other way around or the same. That's the life of a footballer, often times, ups and downs, but you have to keep your head strong. We're in a good moment right now, we have to keep going, and next week we have another big game to prove it.
On the importance of the win: Every game is important. We know that every game is difficult; it's the First Division, it's professional football. I think today showed we have a great team, and we have to keep going. We have to use this to keep going.
Jan Virgili:
On the victory: It's a victory we so desperately needed. A point away from home, what more so if we can do it with three points? It'll be good for us to gain points and confidence, but we have to keep going because we haven't done anything yet.
On the second half: In the first half, especially, we went 1-0 down without them having hurt us at all, and it gave us confidence, and we went all out and came back like we should have.
On self-confidence: I feel good. I try to play without thinking too much about where I am, as if I were on the local court. I help the team whenever I can with my talent and my skills.
On next games: It will be super good for us, I'm sure, with a lot of confidence for the team. Now we have to keep competing, we haven't done anything, calm. It's a victory that gives us a lot of confidence, but we have to keep going.
Jagoba Arrasate:
On the victory: I think it came at the exact moment we needed this victory, and how it happened: on a difficult pitch, losing from the start. I think the team had a brilliant second half. We tied the game, went for the second, then went for the third. We ended up playing in the opponent's half, pressing high. That's what we want, and I'm very happy for the players, who deserve it.
On the substitutions: That's what we always look for. When everyone is available and you come off the bench with a great attitude, as was the case today, that's what happens in the end. We already know Mojica can assist like he did; Mateo Joseph scored two goals; he was lacking accuracy, but that's going to give him confidence; today Pablo Torre gave us a lot of breathing room in midfield; then the final substitutions of Omar and Abdón, who are intelligent players and needed a bit of what the game wanted, and we got it right there.
On the joint celebration: I think it's just a victory, but it could be the victory, given how it played out, and you can see a bit of unity there. Today we're all happy for everyone, but especially for RCD Mallorca, because it's an important victory; we've escaped relegation. Now let's see if with our fans we can get another win.
On satisfaction: Above all, the change in the second half. I loved the team when they push forward, when they press, when they attack spaces. That's the team we want. Sometimes it's not easy, but we have to persist with that idea.
Martin Valjent:
On the victory: These three points are very important, obviously, for the result itself, but also for the feeling, for what it can mean for the group, for all of us. I think it's a result that reinforces the daily work. For practically two weeks, we've been looking forward to this day, and we got the result even though it was difficult for us. I think coming back in the opponent's half is a great achievement.
On the second half: When you find yourself down and don't get the results you expect throughout these games, every little detail penalizes you, and it's not easy. Above all, I want to highlight the mental strength of the group, which knew how to continue doing practically the same thing, trying. I think we had some chances today during the first half, but the game went much better for us. The guys who came in also gave us a huge hand and we were able to win the game.
On celebration: There are no starters or substitutes here. There are 25 players here fighting for a goal, and today has absolutely proven that when you get this result, it's never going to be because of an individual performance; it's always going to be because of the great work of the entire group.
On the upcoming matches: In the league, there's no choice but to keep going, keep analysing, keep improving, and, above all, always approach it with the utmost care. It's very complicated; we're playing it, we're living it, and I think that mental predisposition to make an extra effort is always worth it, and in the end, the result comes.
