Match Report: RCD Mallorca 0-0 Celta Vigo

Our final home game of the year ends in a frustrating goalless draw

Our final home fixture of 2021 ended in a goalless draw against a resolute Celta Vigo side.

Gale-force winds throughout the evening meant both sides struggled to get a foot on the ball throughout the opening exchanges as opportunities were limited to nothing more than half chances.

There was concern for Santi Mina in the 15th minute when he was struck in the head by a ball, but a quick response from the club medical teams ensured the forward left the pitch conscious and with a reassuring raised fist.

The visitors had the best chance of the first half as substitute Thiago Galhardo forced Manolo Reina into a low block two minutes from the break.

We looked an improved side after the restart and some early pressure almost resulted in a goal as Pablo Maffeo ghosted in at the back post before firing over the bar in the 55th minute.

Substitute Ángel got the crowd out of their seats when he reacted to a loose ball with an acrobatic volley, although his strike was comfortably sided by Dituro.

The visitors mounted a late charge in a desperate attempt to find a winner as Galhardo first forced Reina into a reaction save from close range, before Nolito was denied by a good stop.

The goalkeeper was called upon to make a final crucial save in injury time Brais Méndez’s whipped effort required Reina to be at full stretch to tip wide.
