Match Report: Rayo Vallecano 0-2 RCD Mallorca

We registered our first win of the season as Vedat Muriqi and Kang-In Lee are on target

Goals from Vedat Muriqi and Kang-In Lee secured our first win of the season as we overcame Rayo Vallecano 2-0 at Vallecas.

We could not have wished for a better start as some persistent closing from Dani Rodríguez forced a turnover in possession and gave time for our midfielder to pick out Muriqi at the back post to head home in the 13th minute.

The hosts were almost level just after the half-hour mark as Oscar Trejo struck the post from outside the box with a fierce effort.

We went into the break with a slender lead as Rayo Vallecano put the pressure on us to find an equaliser.

Half-time worked in our benefit as we regrouped and were the better side after the restart as Dani Rodríguez saw an effort from the edge of the box saved in the 52nd minute.

We doubled our lead in the 64th minute when Kang-In Lee latched onto Muriqi’s flick on and found the bottom corner at the near post to the delight of the travelling fans.

Academy graduate Javi Llarbes thought he had scored his first senior goal with less than two minutes left on the clock when he raced in behind and fired him, although his celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.

Íñigo Ruíz de Galarreta’s return to first-team football after a lengthy injury capped off what was a celebratory evening for our side as we headed back to Palma with three points.
