Match Report: Atletico Madrid 1-2 RCD Mallorca

Take Kubo’s late winner sees us get back to winning ways at the Wanda Metropolitano

We ended our run of seven winless games by coming from a goal behind to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 courtesy of Franco Russo’s header and an injury time winner from Take Kubo.

Luis García Plaza named an entirely different starting XI to the side which advanced to the next round of the Copa del Rey midweek with a 2-0 victory over Gimnástica Segoviana.

We started well and took the game to the hosts as the first chance of the game fell to Abdón Prats who was unable to get his effort on target having latched onto Dani Rodríguez’s through ball.

Angel Correa and Renan Lodi would later go close as Atletico Madrid found their rhythm and started to cause us problems in the final third.

We ended the first half with one of the best chances of the first half as Kang-In Lee forced Jan Oblak into a fine reflex save at his near post having found space to get a shot away.

The midfielder’s powerful strike would be the last notable action of the first half as we headed into the dressing room level.

After a sluggish restart, the hosts took the lead in the 67th minute when Matheus Cunha poked home from close range after Correa had beat his marker and flashed the ball across goal.

We drew level with 10 minutes remaining when Russo climbed highest to power a header past Oblak and score his first goal in LaLiga.

The comeback was complete in injury time when we launched an incisive counter attack which resulted in Kubo going through on goal and slipping an effort past the on-rushing Oblak to cue pandemonium among the away fans.
