Luis García Plaza: ‘The team deserved a victory like this’
The boss gave his thoughts on our 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid
Luis García Plaza couldn’t hide his delight as we came from a goal down to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 courtesy of Franco Russo’s header and an injury time winner from Take Kubo. Find out what the boss had to say about the game, substitutes and the team:
On the match…
"I think the team deserved a win like this. In Cádiz or Valencia we deserved to win - maybe today we didn't have such a merit, but I think the team competed very well and I'm very proud of them. We have only been poor in Vallecas, so I think the team should have more points than they have today. In the end, those points that have escaped us, we got them back tonight.”
On the changes and the team…
"The guys who came on gave us a lot. It is important that they contribute in this way. Now people will be euphoric, but I have to be calm. I don't think the team deserved a run like this, as they had done well enough to get a win before.
“We weren't a ruin before [the game] and we're not freaks now. We have to continue preparing for the matches with the same hard work and humility.
"We had an important conversation before the match because people started to doubt them. I will never doubt them if they respond to me on the field - win or lose - because that line is very fine. They reacted very well, competing and giving their all."
