Match Report: CD Tenerife 0-1 RCD Mallorca

Cyle Larin books our place in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey with a dramatic extra time winner

Cyle Larin’s dramatic 120th minute winner booked our place in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey courtesy of a 1-0 win against CD Tenerife.

Javier Aguirre named a rotated side, handing starts to Amath, Abdón, Javi Llarbes and Dominik Grief among others.

Enric Gallego had the first chance of the game early on, although Grief was relieved to see the visitors’ effort go wide of the far post.

Abdòn was next to try his luck with a clever flick at the near post but the ball unfortunately veered the wrong side of the woodwork.

Sergi Darder and Amath would come close in what remained of the first half, but we went into the break goalless.

Chances were few and far between after the restart as Aguirre introduced the likes of Dani Rodríguez and Antonio Raíllo as the game progressed.

Abdón continued to cause problems in and around the box, ending the 90 minutes with an acrobatic volley from distance that missed the target.

We remained deadlocked in extra time as Raíllo appealed for a penalty in the first half, although his complaints were waved away.

With the game looking like it was heading for penalties, Gio Gonzalez knocked a loose ball down in the box for Larin to poke home from close range and book our place in the next round in dramatic style.
