Luis García Plaza: 'We’re motivated to get back winning at home’

The boss spoke at his pre-match press conference ahead of our hosting of Girona FC

Luis García Plaza says his side to could take a big step towards promotion with a win against Girona CF on Saturday evening.

Our visitors for Matchday 23 are currently among those competing for a play-off spot and head to the Visit Mallorca Estadi having not lost in their previous three fixtures, although the boss is wary plenty can change with so much still to play for in the second half of the season.

“If we win, we will leave Girona 15 points behind us, which is a team made to be at the top,” he told journalists via a remote press conference. “It’s true they started the season with many problems, such as not being able to count on Stuani for many games, but it’s a team that is going to go further. They can still be in the fight for direct promotion.

"I think we'll be playing for everything in the last seven or eight games [of the season]. All points are worth the same, no matter who the opponent is. We are very focused ahead of the match against Girona, who have just beaten Espanyol. They have fearsome players and a lot of potential from set pieces.”

Having had to rotate for much of the season due to a hectic fixture schedule, Luis García Plaza believes there will be fewer changes to his starting XI as games return to a weekly basis.

“The rotations we have introduced during the weeks that have had Wednesday and Sunday matches have worked very well,” he continued. “I think we have avoided some injuries and the players have given 100%.

“Now it's different, there will be fewer rotations. We want to change the dynamic of our home games. I hope that against Girona we will be able to win without giving up everything we have been doing away from home.”
