Luis García Plaza: ‘We’re here to stay’

The boss shared his thoughts on our draw with SD Ponferradina in our final game of the season

Luis García Plaza spoke to the media after our 2-2 draw with SD Ponferradina saw us miss out on being crowned Segunda División champions by a single point. Find out what the boss had to say about the game, the squad and the season:

On the match...

"I congratulate RCD Espanyol on the title and you won't see any gesture of sadness from me. We had two or three very clear goal situations and in the end we drew, and because of the goal difference, we couldn't be first. We have to leave here happy more than anything. These players are a phenomenon, they made me enjoy myself as I hadn't done for many years and I'm already looking forward to pre-season.”

On the dressing room at the end of the match...

"We experienced two situations. When the players came in, they were hurt, but after a while we all gave each other a round of applause and we have to be very proud of the year they have had, of competing with a team like RCD Espanyol and tying with them on points. I take my hat off to them. This was not a team that speculated.

"We arrived a little bit tight at the end of the game, but we went from a little disappointment to a very emotional moment with everyone applauding us. The players have represented all the Mallorcan people and the club very well.”

On promotion...

"We are here to stay and we will get it if we do a good job. It's time to enjoy the promotion and the fact that we have 82 points - this is great, it's awesome and the team deserves all my compliments. This team gives everything and I'm looking forward to getting back to work.”
