Luis García Plaza: ‘We were better but they have taken their chances – that’s football’
The boss reflected on our defeat to RCD Espanyol in his post-match press conference
Luis García Plaza spoke to journalists in his post-match press conference following our 2-1 defeat to RCD Espanyol. Find out what the boss had to say about the result, the league and what’s next.
On the match...
"We were better in the first half until the goal. In the second half, I think we were infinitely better than them. In the end, football is played in three quarters of the pitch, but you win in those areas and that’s where they were better. The game was ours. We're a team that, when we are level, we look for the other team's goal and we go for the opposition. They had one and they scored. That's football and that's all there is to it.
"When we conceded the goal, we dropped off a bit. We had two clear-cut chances courtesy of Amath. When we were at our best had the game under control, they scored. This is going to be very tough and very long. Today I leave with the feeling that we did things well, but they came and scored.”
On home defeats...
"All the accidents that happen to us, happen to us at home. We are a team that always tries to play the same way. Our numbers at home are not incredible, but they are good. The good things are happening to us away from home. This is not a blow. After today and after Almería, whatever happens, we'll stay in the fight. We have earned that and in the future they will have to face them.”
On the changes and what comes next..
"The team was good, that's why I didn't make the changes earlier. When they came on everything was more complicated. It's not easy to do a lot of things in ten minutes. At half-time I told them that nothing was wrong. We had to keep going. We had high hopes for this match. We were beaten by a very good team and we have to keep going.
"There's no need to think about it anymore. There's a lot more to come and let's hope that next Sunday we'll be more accurate.”
