Álvaro Giménez: ‘Facing UD Almería is a very special match for me’

The striker looked ahead to our clash with UD Almería in his pre-match press conference

Álvaro Giménez says he can’t wait to face his former side UD Almeria this Sunday afternoon.

Having made two substitute appearances since his loan signing from Cadíz on the final day of the January transfer window, the striker is looking to put our defeat to RCD Espanyol last weekend behind us with three points against promotion rivals at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

“I’ve very excited to play against UD Almería,” he told journalists via remote press conference. “I had the best year of my career there. Now I’m focused on playing for RCD Mallorca, on our objectives and doing the best we possibly can.

“The team had a good game [against RCD Espanyol], at least enough to deserve a point. There's a long way to go and we have to continue to be as consistent as we have been so far. Mallorca is a team I've played for before, and I was very happy. I knew that coming here was a very good place where I could get minutes.”

Having previously played for RCD Mallorca, Giménez says his readjustment to his former surrounds has been made easier by manager Luis García Plaza.

"Luis is very close to the players,” he continued. “He is always encouraging and talking to players. He knows how to keep players involved. I'm happy with the minutes I've had in my first few games.”
