Luis García Plaza: ‘Villarreal CF is one of the toughest oppositions in LaLiga’

The boss gave his thoughts on Sunday’s clash in his pre-match press conference

Luis García Plaza says his side must be at their best ahead of our hosting of Villarreal CF on Sunday afternoon.

Having suffered our first defeat of the season at Athletic Bilbao, the boss is keen to see the squad respond in front of the Visit Mallorca Estadi crowd.

“We are facing a great team,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “For me, Villarreal is at the same level as Sevilla. Not only the squad, but also their coach. They have goals, experience, quality and options from the bench. They are one of the toughest opponents in the league.

"In San Mamés we had a bad time in the first half but, after analysing it calmly, they scored against us when we were at our best. We have to try to avoid these kinds of goals. I hope my team is at the level we are used to. If we play at our level, we will have the chance to score.

"The Visit Mallorca Estadi factor has to be at its best. Our fans are eager to be with the team and we need them. We have to try to lose as few games as possible at home and for that we need the people."

Injuries to Aleksandar Sedlar, Antonio Raíllo and Franco Russo has left us short in central defence, although the Plaza believes he has enough strength in depth to cover the issue.

"We have a problem with the central defenders because of injuries,” he continued. “But the involvement of the squad is shown by the fact that up to four players have offered to play in that position.

“That's what I love about our team, their level of involvement. It is possible that Pep Gayà will make his debut in LaLiga. I'm not saying he's going to be a starter, but it's possible he could play in one of the next two games.”
