Luis García Plaza: ‘The team had the character we were looking for’

The boss analysed our 1-0 win at the Mendizorroza

Luis García Plaza couldn’t hide his delight as we recorded our first three points of the season with a 1-0 win against Deportivo Alavés. Fer Niño had a debut to remember as he scored the winning goal with 10 minutes to go. Find out what the boss had to say about the win, the performance and Take Kubo in his post-match press conference below:

On the match...

“It was an even first half. Both teams had chances, but in the second half it was a little more balanced. The team had the character we were looking for. We have got four points in two games and I'm very happy for the group. We have flaws, but what I have seen from the team has been positive.

"Joselu is one of the best players in the air. We have also been very attentive to Manu. We played a lot between the lines with Take and Dani, in addition to using the width on the wings with Mboula, and that's where we hurt them.

"The second half was ours. I had Salva Sevilla and Fer Niño's changes in mind. We deserved to win with 11 and with ten men. The team showed good character.”

On the team...

"We are not a team that gets in behind and closes in. We have a clear style because we have players for that. That's what we have to live with - win, lose and die. We have to keep working. There will come spells because LaLiga is very tough. The team has the ambition to win.

"The continuity of a coach and a group really helps. We will go through bad moments. This is LaLiga and this is football - anything can happen. I trust all the players. I like to have a typical 11.

"These four points are very valuable. Nobody will take the points away from us. Getting points are very important for us. We have to be very calm and keep working.”

On Take Kubo...

"Take is taking shape. I'm very happy with him. He needs to step more into the box and be deeper. He is a player who will give us a lot.”
