‘La Batalla dels Gegants’ attracts more than 1,000 fans to Palau d’Esports de Son Moix

RCD Mallorca players and Fibwi Mallorca Bàsquet Palma enjoyed a coming together of different sports

The Palau d'Esports de Son Moix enjoyed a different kind of afternoon with the celebration of “La Batalla dels Gegants”, an event organised by the IME–Ajuntament de Palma, RCD Mallorca and Fibwi Mallorca Bàsquet Palma, which brought together players from both teams in an event marked by fun, sportsmanship and a family atmosphere.

The day began with a 20-minute indoor football match, in which the Mallorquinistas won convincingly, thanks in part to two goals from Pablo Torre, one of the stars of the show. Antonio Sánchez, Dani Rodríguez, Asano, Pichu Cuéllar, Nil, Abdón and Javi Llabrés, among others, also took part.

The players then switched disciplines to play a basketball match, in which the red team — with Mateo Joseph, David López, Samu Costa, Martin Valjent and Marc Domènech — lost to the representatives of Fibwi Mallorca Bàsquet Palma. However, the show was stolen by Samu Costa, who scored two three-pointers in the final seconds of the game: one with ten seconds to go and another at the buzzer, sparking an ovation from the crowd.

With a victory in futsal and a defeat in basketball, the final result was a symbolic draw on an afternoon that brought together more than 1,000 people, including 150 children from RCD Mallorca's youth football teams, who enjoyed the event and took the opportunity to take photos and get autographs from their idols at the end of the match.
