Javier Aguirre: “We have got three valuable points”

The boss gave his thoughts after our 2-1 win over Deportivo Alavés

Javier Aguirre was on post-match media duties after our 2-1 win over Deportivo Alavés. Two first-half goals from Abdón Prats and Vedat Muriqi saw us overcome our relegation rivals Deportivo Alavés 2-1 in what could be a decisive game in our fight for survival. Find out what the boss had to say below.

On the match…

"There was a lot of tension because we were both playing for our future. There were a lot of nerves and nobody imposed their game in the first half, while in the second half they put in a lot of long balls and we failed to finish off on the counter.

“The own goal made us nervous and the added time made for a very tense ending, but in the end everything was defined by details and we got three points that are valuable, but not definitive.

"All the intensity and confidence which we go into the duels with, and the determination without the ball, I don't see it when we have it. It was a match in which to take a step forward, but I saw them looser and I liked the team more with the ball in the second half, but the own goal complicated things. Hopefully the match will come when we are able to do better."

On what is next…

"We have a complicated schedule like everyone else and every point and every game is a final or one less life, but we have to keep going. We can be happy, but, as my friend Caparrós would say, we have to visit the dentist.

"You can't make any best because there are moments in teams' moods that change things, so I only focus on my own and what the others do, we can only look to the side.”
