Javier Aguirre: “The team was in it until the end”

The boss spoke to the media after our 1-0 defeat to Sevilla at the Visit Mallorca Estadi

Javier Aguirre spoke to the media after our 1-0 defeat to Sevilla at his post-match press conference. Nemanja Gudelj’s second-half strike was the difference on an evening which saw us fall to a 1-0 defeat against Sevilla FC despite a late chance for Ángel Rodríguez. Find out what he had to say below:

On the match...

"I don't know if today's game was there to win, but we didn’t deserve to lose. The statistics show that they shot once and it was a goal. We had five shots and didn’t score - that's a pretty simple analysis on my part and they are the numbers. They take the three points and we are left as we are left with things.”

On the players...

"Of course, I congratulate my players because they gave their all and in the end, we are an honest, competitive team who run and fight. We couldn't change this dynamic in the penalty area, where we couldn't find the quality to score a goal. The opposing goalkeeper did a good job."

On the team's reaction...

"The goal is an emotional blow, undoubtedly, but in the end, the team recovers. We changed to a backline of four, we put in two strikers, we put in fresh players on the flanks. I think the team was alive until the end. I have nothing to reproach my players for, to be honest. It hurts us because we didn't do so badly to lose, I think."
