Javier Aguirre: The team is motivated to play at home

Javier Aguirre says his side cannot wait to get in front of the home fans as we host Villarreal CF this Friday evening.

Having started the season with a 1-1 draw at UD Las Palmas, we will get in front of our supporters at the redeveloped Estadi Mallorca Son Moix for the first time this campaign and the boss cannot wait to get back into the dugout.

“It will be our first game at home,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “Today we already went to the stadium. Tomorrow's game is going to be special because the stadium is going to be very good, but it's still in the works. The team is motivated by the start of the league at home.

“Both teams have a defined style. Quique Setién is a coach who has led great teams and always has a game scheme of good handling of the ball, with a lot of arrivals and good possession. They will have more of the ball and we will have our chances. They are a very fluid team offensively, with many variants, which is going to complicate us."

While we had to settle for a point for our season curtain raiser, Aguirre believes the team demonstrated its unity on the pitch.

“The most positive thing about the match against UD Las Palmas was the group, both those who played and those who didn't play," the boss added. “I love my team because it is a tremendously supportive group.

"It is a family. We are very strong, solid. When we act alone it is difficult for us, but when we all go together, the team does very well”.
