Match Report: RCD Mallorca 0-1 Villarreal CF

Gerard Moreno’s second-half strike was the difference on a frustrating evening

We were unlucky to fall to a 1-0 defeat in our first game back at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix this season as Gerard Moreno’s second-half strike was the difference on the evening.

Javier Aguirre named a largely unchanged side from the opening day draw with UD Las Palmas as Antonio Raíllo and Amath were handed starts.

Chances were few and far between during the opening exchanges as the visitors had the first opportunity of the game in the 30th minute when Alex Baena fired wide of the post.

Raíllo’s looping header would be the closest we would come to opening the scoring, although it was a straightforward save for Jörgensen.

Predrag Rajković had to make a fine save before the end of the first half to deny a long-distance drive as we headed into the dressing room level.

Moreno gave the visiting side the lead in the 62nd minute when he reacted first to a loose ball in the box from a corner to poke home.

Rajković remained busy as Villarreal CF looked to double their lead throughout the remaining half hour.
