Jagoba Arrasate: “We have to play together, us with the fans”

Find out what the boss had to say ahead of our hosting of RCD Espanyol

Jagoba Arrasate, enternador del RCD Mallorca, ha comparecido en la rueda de prensa previa a la jornada 28 contra el RCD Espanyol.

On his expectations: ‘If we win, that will put us on 40 (points). I think that's a great number. We'll go into the break happy and content. We'll probably start thinking about other things, that happens. But it's not something I've visualised yet.’

On the team: ‘We have Copete out, as you know, but the others are fine. It's true that we've had some problems, some of them finished the week with some discomfort, but they've trained well. In principle, they are all available and looking forward to playing tomorrow.’

On opening the scoring: 'That's where there's room for improvement, in the first half of the season we were ahead or a goal was enough to win the games, now a goal isn't enough for us. In the whole of 2025 we haven't kept a clean sheet and that, I think, is the margin for improvement that we have. I think the team is improving, scoring goals, creating chances and being competitive. But if we need to improve anything, it's that, defensive solidity, especially when we take the lead.’

On the absence of some players: ‘Everyone is going to be important here, there are still eleven games left. I'm the coach and I have to make decisions. In the end, when you have a squad of twenty-something players, it's impossible for everyone to play the same. My job is to make sure that everyone feels involved and is ready for the moment when they can come on.’

On RCD Espanyol: 'It's an important game and we want to win. In the first leg they beat us, we played a very bad game there. Espanyol outplayed us and didn't let us play, we have to learn from that. They are in a great moment, they are being very competitive and we have to do things right to win.’

On playing at home: 'The players have spoken out because they feel that way, I feel that way too. We have five home games left and we have to be on fire in those games. We have to play together, us with the fans. It will depend a lot on those five games where we finish the season.’

On RCD Espanyol tactically: 'They are a team with a very clear identity: they compete very well, they are very clear on the ball and they have no qualms about coming together without the ball. What they do best, I think, are the transitions. They have the ability to be aggressive, steal and get forward. Tomorrow's game requires patience, getting into a rhythm and playing in the opposition's half, but with patience and making good decisions. We have to learn from the first leg and do things better.’

On improving for home games: ‘We have room for improvement at home, that's clear. Those couple of draws, if we got the 3 points, we would be higher in the overall and home qualification. But, if we haven't achieved it, it's because we have room for improvement. We have to fine-tune a few things and, above all, not give our opponents a chance.’

On defence: 'It's one of the keys, in 2025 we haven't kept a clean sheet and to win, with a clean sheet we have many more options. Hopefully tomorrow we'll have a good game offensively, with efficiency, but a clean sheet is key for us.’

On the coach's message to the fans: ‘Quantity is very important, but so is quality. Those who go, and hopefully there will be a lot of them, don't go to watch the game, but to play the game with us. It's the last effort before the break and I hope we can celebrate together.’
