Iddrisu Baba: ‘We’re prepared for Real Madrid’

The midfielder spoke to Play Red about our upcoming clash at the Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas

Iddrisu Baba believes our trip to league leaders Real Madrid on Wednesday evening could be a case of mind over matter.

The midfielder has featured 29 times across all competitions this season, and while the hosts are on a run of three consecutive wins, says he and his team-mates are heading to the capital in search of crucial points.

“It’s not going to be easy, just like every other game we play,” he told Play Red. “I think they’re also probably going to come and try and take the three points, but we’re in this situation where we’re not able to let go of even just a point. They came here and they lost, so probably they would like to defeat us over there, so us going there, for me, based on the attitude I’ve seen, we’re really prepared.

“We’re really prepared, but you sitting there is quite different to performing the real action. At the end of the day, when the game starts, everybody will know the kind of mentality for the game and everything. It’s going to be quite tough, but we’re also prepared. Something has to be done and we hope to deliver.”

Three points away from safety with eight games remaining, Baba says there’s still a long way to go in our fight for survival as teams around us drop points.

“I think we’re not the only team that is going through this alone,” he continued. “There are other teams who are going through the same situation, but I think things can still change and turnaround. We have to keep focused and continue with what we normally do as a team in general.

“I think everything will be fine, because we’re not the only team suffering down there. There are clubs who are only a little bit above us and are going through the same situation. It’s all about the mentality and the kind of attitude which we approach every game with. Everything is going to be fine.”
