Fran Gámez: ‘We want to make the fans happy during a difficult year’

The full back spoke to the media ahead of our clash with UD Logroñés on Saturday evening

Fran Gámez is a man on a mission ahead of our trip to UD Logroñés on Saturday evening.

Heading into Matchday 27 with a slender lead at the top of the table, the defender says the side are working hard to ensure the fans have something to smile about after a campaign played behind closed doors.

"We have a nice challenge this year: get promoted back to LaLiga. To be able to make so many people happy at a time as complicated as the one we are going through is motivation enough to go out onto the pitch every day and try to win.

"We've gone through a stretch of the league against the teams at the top but there are many games left and all the points are worth the same. If we don't keep winning, the run of results we've been on will be of little use. This year there are many more players who have more experience, and that factor can be in our favour.”

The newly-promoted hosts head into this weekend’s fixture without a win in their last five games, although Gámez is wary of the threat Sergio Rodríguez’s side pose.

"Against UD Logroñés it's going to be a very difficult game, despite the fact that they're not going through the best moment of their season,” he continued.  “They'll probably have extra motivation to play against the league leaders.”
