After several meetings with representatives throughout Mallorcan football, RCD Mallorca will pay tribute to Miquel Contestí by naming the Presidential Box at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix after him.
It will now be known as the Llotja Presidencial Miquel Contestí, the most emblematic space in the stadium and one of the club's most symbolic locations.
Contestí was president of RCD Mallorca for 14 years, a key period in the history of the club, and his figure is closely linked to the institutional representation of the club. For this reason, it has been considered that the presidential box is the place that best reflects his legacy, his leadership and his connection with the presidency of Mallorca.
During the evaluation process, the club held discussions and specifically valued the opinions of the Unió de Penyes Mallorquinistes, the Moviment Mallorquinista and the Penya de Llucmajor Miquel Contestí among others. These are representative entities of Mallorquinismo, whose contributions formed part of the analysis prior to the final decision. Following this shared process, the Presidential Box was chosen as it was understood to be the space that best connects with the historical and representative dimension of Contestí's figure.
The tribute will also include the placement of a commemorative plaque with his name in the presidential box itself, which will be unveiled on a match day to be announced shortly.
A mural by René Mäkelä
This recognition will be further reinforced by the creation of a mural dedicated to Contestí at one of the stadium entrances. The work will be carried out by René Mäkelä, the artist responsible for the design of all the stadium entrances, thus integrating Contestí's memory into the visual and architectural identity of the venue.
With this initiative, RCD Mallorca wishes to recognize and celebrate the career, commitment, and indelible mark that Miquel Contestí left on the club's history. President Miquel Contestí Cardell (1933-2026), who passed away on January 2nd, was one of the most decisive and respected figures in the history of Real Club Deportivo Mallorca.
Born in s’Arenal de Llucmajor, he dedicated a significant part of his professional and personal life to serving his island and, in particular, to the survival and consolidation of the Mallorcan club, to which he will forever be linked as the president who saved it during its darkest hour.
