A convincing 3-0 win against Real Oviedo was not enough to keep us in LaLiga as results elsewhere saw us relegated on the final day of the season.
Martin Demichelis gave starts to Takuma Asano and Toni Lato while Antonio Raíllo was included among the substitutes following his injury.
The game kicked off with us knowing that nothing but a win would give us a fighting chance of staying in the division, while we also needed a series of other results throughout the division to go our way.
Asano almost got us off to a dream start when he raced in behind and pulled a low effort just wide of the part post in the 17th minute.
Pablo Torre opened the scoring just minutes before the break when he drifted to the back post to meet Pablo Maffeo’s cross and volley home from close range.
Our midfielder almost scored a second in the 70th minute with a low drive that was saved in what was our first sight of goal after the restart.
Manu Morlanes doubled our lead in the 83rd minute when he reacted first to volley home a loose ball in the box.
Vedat Muriqi put the game beyond doubt with just two minutes left to play when a low cross was spilled into our centre forward’s path who made no mistake from a few yards out.
Despite the victory at home, results elsewhere meant we were unable to prevent relegation and will play our football in the Segunda Division next season.
