Match Report: Valencia CF 1-0 RCD Mallorca

Our unbeaten run of six games comes to an end at the Mestalla

We were unlucky to suffer a 1-0 defeat at Valencia CF as Diego Lopez’s 50th minute strike ended our unbeaten run of six games.

Jagoba Arrasate opted for Abdon Prats and Takuma Asano to led the line in the absence of Vedat Muriqi and Cyle Larin, while Toni Lato faced his former club.

The hosts had the first sight of goal in the 22nd minute when Javier Guerrera hit the post with a deflected strike.

Dominik Grief had to be at his best to produce a fine reflex save to deny Sadiq’s close-range header.

Asano had our best chance of the first half when he raced through on goal and forced Mamardashvili into a low block as we then headed into the break goalless.

Lopez scored the only goal of the game five minutes after the restart when a quick turnover in possession gave the midfielder time to cut in and find the bottom corner.

The goalscorer almost added a second when he fired over the bar from close range as Valencia CF piled on the pressure.

Asano came close to levelling in the 65th minute although our forward’s diving header was inches wide of the far post.

Dani Rodríguez had our last sight of goal when he drove a shot wide of the mark as we headed back to the island empty handed.
