Match Report: Real Sociedad 1-0 RCD Mallorca

Brais Méndez's strike was the only goal of the game as we fell just short in a tight contest

Brais Méndez’s 64th minute was the difference in a hard-fought contest as we fell to a 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad.

Javier Aguirre gave Cyle Larin his first start of the season while Antonio Sánchez was moved into midfield.

Dani Rodríguez was troublesome from the offset as our midfielder first teed up an effort for Larin which was saved, before then seeing a header stopped.

We headed into the break with little to separate the two sides and chances few and far between.

Former star Take Kubo was introduced in the second half and came back to haunt us as he crossed for Méndez to score the only goal of the game.

Mikel Oyarzabal thought he had doubled the hosts’ lead minutes later, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.

Substitute Amath had out best opportunity of the game when he danced past various defenders and got a shot away with two minutes left on the clock, but he was denied by a low block as we headed back to the island empty handed.
