Club hosts media breakfast at Visit Mallorca Estadi

President Andy Kohlberg, CEO Alfonso Díaz and Director of Football Pablo Ortells spoke to journalists ahead of the upcoming campaign

President Andy Kohlberg, CEO Alfonso Díaz and Director of Football Pablo Ortells hosted an open breakfast where they discussed current affairs at the club with local, national and international media.

With preparations for the upcoming season in the Segunda División already underway after our first campaign in La Liga for six years ended in relegation, the trio outlined long-term strategy, economic wellbeing and the decision to rename the stadium the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

"Our goal remains the same: try to get back into La Liga next season,” began Mr. Kohlberg. “We would like the team to be among the league's top clubs in the long term and we’ll work very hard to achieve that.

“I’m very happy with the new structure, with Alfonso Díaz as CEO of the business side and Pablo Ortells as the Director of Football. This new organisation is going to meet the long-term goals we have set ourselves.

“We’re very proud with the Visit Mallorca Estadi, it’s something that helps the promotion of the island and has had the involvement of institutions and companies.”

Having assumed the role of CEO earlier this year, Mr.Díaz has overseen the club’s handling of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis and believes our fanbase has been infallible despite the remainder of the campaign being played behind closed doors.

"We have to thank the fans, who have been with us all the way despite relegation,” he said. “They took us to La Liga and showed us their support until the very last game. We want to apologise for the relegation – it’s clear something has gone wrong along the way - but the effort and honesty we have put in to it has been undeniable.

“We’ve given the club strength to be sustainable for the future, we have reduced the debt, and when we return to La Liga, we’ll be stronger and we’ll be better prepared. There will be a pre-booking system to see how many season-ticket holders we can have by the time we can return to stadiums."

Pablo Ortells was appointed Director of Football in April having held a similar role at former club Villarreal and is keen to see RCD Mallorca return to the top flight.

"We have to be better every day and to be competitive,” he continued. “We're going to have to put everything into getting RCD Mallorca back in La Liga. A very important piece is the Fútbol Base and its young people. These are people who understand the club and who want to reach the elite. We have to professionalise all the departments of the club. We’ll make a very nice and attractive project to be ambitious and to get back to La Liga as soon as possible."
