CEO Maheta Molango participates in World Football Summit

The Chief Executive discussed the club's finances and transfer strategy as a chief speaker in Madrid

Chief Executive Maheta Molango discussed the club’s finances, back-to-back promotions and future project as a chief speaker at the World Football Summit’s annual conference in Madrid.

Involving a delegation of experienced professionals from a range of roles within the sport, Molango featured on the ‘Transfer Market: Trends and Predictions’ panel alongside Víctor Orta, director of football at Leeds United; José Enrique Vélez, president of Colombian football association DIMAYOR; José Ramón Capdevila from Player Lens.

Hosted by Ebru Broskal, Women in Football representative, Molango highlighted the importance of stability, experience and solid foundations when asked about financial budgeting following promotion.

“In Segunda B we had the biggest budget; but in Segunda, no,” he said. “In both cases we were promoted knowing that the most important thing was the structure of a solid project with a coaching team and squad that had character and quality. Now we are the lowest team in terms of salary in La Liga, but that is not definitive nor decisive.”

The CEO later reflected upon RCD Mallorca’s activity in the transfer market and handling of academy talent following consecutive promotions.

“We had 16 players loaned out following the two promotions,” Molango continued. “These were our assets and we wanted to continue with them and make it a great year. The case of loaning Iddrissu Baba was an example of how a player can take advantage of a loan, in his case to Barakaldo, and today be a regular starter in La Liga.”
