Baba Rahman: 'I used to sleep with a ball at my feet'
The left back looked back at his journey from playing in Ghana to reaching the top of professional football
Baba Rahman says he used to sleep with a ball at his feet as he chartered his rise to the top of professional football in an exclusive interview with Play Red .
The left back recently made his return to Vicente Moreno’s starting XI following three months injured and believes his journey to Son Moix has been against the odds.
“It’s actually amazing,” he told the podcast. “I didn’t think I would make it this far, growing up from the north, you didn’t see many players making it the top. I was quite surprised, I just have to thank god and keep working hard. I think that’s what brought me here.In Tamale we have so many football pitches around. You see kids kicking a football around the streets. I used to sleep with the ball as well.”
While the 25-year-old wasn’t able to join Lumor and Iddrisu Baba on international duty following the midfielder’s first call-up for Ghana, our other Baba says he knew it was only a matter of time before RCD Mallorca could boast three Black Stars squad members.
“When I first arrived here, I told him: ‘bro, keep working hard and you’re going to make your dream come true because in Ghana I think you are one of the best in your position and you’re really doing well’, he said. “’Keep working and hopefully very soon you’re going to get your call-up’.
“We call eachother brothers and it’s really nice to have them here and we speak a lot and we make a lot of jokes. We listen to a lot of things, like funny things from Ghana.”
