Vicente Moreno: ‘We’ve got to focus on La Liga and win at a difficult place’
The boss spoke to journalists in his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with Real Sociedad
Vicente Moreno says his side must shift all attention to La Liga for the remainder of the season ahead of our clash with Real Sociedad on Sunday.
We head to the Anoeta Stadium on the back of a hectic week of both domestic and Copa del Rey fixtures, and despite this weekend’s host having suffered consecutive league defeats since the winter break, Moreno has warned against thinking the Txuri-Urdinak are out of form.
“You have to focus on La Liga and to try and win at a complicated place and continue adding points in order to have more of a chance of being outside of the relegation zone every week,” he said at his pre-match press conference. “We know how difficult it is for everyone. I don’t believe Raul is having a bad time, they have lost two games in the league fixtures that followed, which can happen to all teams. On top of that, some of the games they have lost, they could have easily been won also.
"Personally, Raul’s side looks like a team which has at a very high level in terms of technical quality and is very similar to the big ones like Barcelona or Real Madrid, and on top of that, a physical level and also a tactical level which also appears to me among the best teams. They are among those who do more things in the first division.”
Our third fixture in the space of eight days, we previously beat Valencia 4-1 before crashing out of the Copa del Rey to Real Zaragoza, but Moreno says it’s important to look at the bigger picture in regards to form.
“We did not have a perfect day against Valencia and the things we did weren’t as perfect either, and the day against Zaragoza was not a total disaster either," he added. "What we did on the day of Valencia is not worth the same as what we did against Real Madrid, they are not similar teams. They do not anything similar and we want to have options that will have to be adapted in our approach to winning games.”
