Vicente Moreno: ’The team has faith and still believes’

The boss looked ahead to our clash with Atlético de Madrid on Friday evening in his pre-match press conference

Vicente Moreno says he and his squad still believe they can overturn the odds in our fight for survival ahead of a trip to Atlético de Madrid on Friday evening.

The team travel to the capital on the back of our largest win of the season against relegation rivals Celta Vigo, and the boss believes his side have been boosted by the positive result following a difficult few weeks.

“Away from the big score line of the last result, the last win shows that the team is still trying despite the setbacks we have suffered over the course of the season,” he told journalists via a video press conference. “The team has faith and continues to believe."

“Beyond the results of the other teams, the most important thing is that we win matches. The reality is that the rest of the teams at the bottom would have preferred us to have lost. We'd trade places with any team in front of us, but they may be a little nervous after that. In any case, they have more margin for error than we do."

The hosts currently sit in third position and haven’t lost since February, but Moreno says his side are intent on picking up crucial points as we look to make ground on the five-point gap that seperates us from safety going into the fixture.

"Atlético de Madrid is a very difficult place to go to but we’ll try to win the games that we have left,” he continued. “We're up against one of the best teams in the league, with competitive characteristics that always sees them up there [at the top].

“Despite having world superstars, they play with humility and as a team. It is no coincidence that they have won titles in recent years and played two Champions League finals. They have a lot of things I'd like my teams to have."
