Samu Costa is enjoying his best season in front of goal to date.
His three goals so far highlight the Portuguese player's new role in Jagoba Arrasate's system and head of the match against Rayo Vallecano, Samu discussed his current form and the challenging game in Vallecas.
On his individual form: "I think I'm doing well. I'm also contributing in another area where I didn't last year or in my first year, which is scoring goals and getting into the box more often. This is something I've been working on in training, and I feel really good and want to continue contributing in that way."
On the new role: "The role came very naturally. I mean, I haven't been working to start scoring goals; sometimes it's just a small mental or tactical change that makes a big difference. What the manager asks of me is to get into the box; I have the ability to get into both penalty areas very easily in a short amount of time. So, I need to take advantage of my physique and my ability to cover a lot of ground. In the end, anything can happen in the box, and since I also have a good shot and I work on it, I'll always have opportunities to score."
On the defeat against Girona: "It was a defeat. So, we shouldn't get carried away. We have to keep working and trusting the staff, trusting each other. We have an opportunity this weekend against Rayo Vallecano, and things will go well, I'm sure."
On the match against Rayo Vallecano: "It's a difficult ground, but we're used to it. It shouldn't affect our game. When you're on the pitch, you usually stop listening to what's happening outside and you're just focused on your own game. This week we're working hard, we're training well, and more specifically to play a good match there, and I'm sure we will."
