RCD Mallorca Suffer 2-0 Defeat To U.D. Poblense

The friendly Trofeu de s'Agricultura ends with both sides being reduced to 10 men and several academy debuts

RCD Mallorca’s friendly Trofeu de s'Agricultura fixture with U.D. Poblense ended in a 2-0 defeat as Vicente Moreno’s side took advantage of the international break to get new arrivals match sharp and give 11 academy prospects senior experience.

With Martin Valjent, Aleksandar Trajkovski and Takefusa Kubo absent due to respective call-ups, proceedings in Sa Pobla got off to a slow start as the manager opted for a much-changed starting XI.

Josep Señe’s freekick and close-range opportunity were the only chances of note in the opening half-hour, and despite a domination of possession, the Tercera División side went ahead against the run of play on the 34th minute after Pep Vidal broke through on goal and slipped the ball past an on-rushing Miquel Parera.

In search of an immediate response that would eventually fail to come to fruition prior to the break, Álex Alegría and then Raúl Prada came close to levelling the scores within the same move before the former’s off-target header gave U.D. Poblense a late scare.

An ill-disciplined restart on behalf of both teams saw Xisco Campos and Mateu Ferrer receive their marching orders following an altercation two minutes into the second half, while things soon went from bad to worse as Marca Joan Oller doubled the hosts’ advantage from the spot following Marc Pedraza’s mistimed challenge in the 56thminute.

Debuts for academy players would go down as one of the few highlights come the final whistle as RCD Mallorca struggled to find a way back into the game with 10 men.

RCD Mallorca: Parera (Fabricio, 46’), Baba Rahman, Campos (C), Prada (Gayá, 73’), Parra (Rober, 73’), Señe, Pedraza (Carlos, 87’), Salibur (Álamo, 80’), Fode (Thomas, 73’), Joaquín (Fran, 79’), Alex Alegría (Enric, 87’)

Goles: 1-0, Pep Vidal, 34’. 2-0, Joan Oller, 56’.
