Match report: RCD Mallorca 1-2 Real Betis

Two penalties from Borja Iglesias put the game beyond Muriqi’s equaliser in a hard-fought clash

We were unlucky to fall to a 2-1 defeat against Real Betis as we welcomed fans back to the Visit Mallorca Estadi for the first time this season.

Javier Aguirre set up in a 5-3-2 formation as Kang-In Lee and Vedat Muriqi lead the forward line.

We couldn’t have wished for a worst start as Borja Iglesias opened the scoring in the eighth minute from the spot after Rodrigo Battaglia handled the ball in the box.

The early goal took the momentum out of both sides as we were unable to create any goalscoring opportunities of note and headed into the break a goal down.

We were level 11 minutes after the restart as Muriqi ghosted in at the back post to connect with Lee’s cross and open his account up for the season.

It was not our night as Battaglia was adjudged to have tripped Nabil Fekir in the box and Iglesias held his nerve from the penalty spot for a second time to give Real Betis the three points.
