Luis García Plaza: ‘We knew we would have to dig in until the end’

The boss spoke to the media after our 1-0 win over UD Levante

Luis García Plaza couldn’t hide his joy in his post-match press conference as we returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over UD Levante. Iddrisu Baba scored in the 75th minute to ensure all three points remained at the Visit Mallorca Estadi. Find out what the boss had to say below:

On the match...

"The first half was even. We lacked a bit of depth in three quarters of the game, but the second half was ours. We managed to play our football. We almost drew from the penalty, but I'm very happy for the fans and for the players who worked hard.

"We've played eight games and we've almost always given our best. Last week we did things right. And today, by doing things well, you can draw. Today there have been quite a few fouls that have slowed down the pace [of the game].”

On the team...

"Being mid-table, we can't talk about a bad situation. I don't consider Villarreal as a bad result. I think we only played a bad game. We are not in a bad dynamic. We lost against CA Osasuna and what are you going to do? Get up and work. This is what we have to do. At the end of the season I will end up with three more years. We have eight games and eleven points. We know that we are going to bite the bullet every game.

"You can have players out and have the substitute play, but when you don't even have a substitute, it's difficult. Today players have returned and it was noticeable, but those who have been playing so far have not done badly. We need to concede fewer chances. That's where we have to improve.”

On Manolo Reina...

"Manolo has been very calm. He has a lot of experience. He was masterful with the penalty. He knows how to read the game and I am very happy with both goalkeepers.”
