Luis García Plaza: ‘The team knew how to suffer and this has been a great win’

The boss spoke to journalists via his post-match press conference following our 1-0 win over Girona FC

Luis García Plaza reflected on our 1-0 win at Girona FC in his post-match press conference as we closed the gap on top of the league and extended our unbeaten run to 11 games. Find out what the boss had to say about the performance, the table and next week’s clash with Sporting Gijon.

On the performance...

“Girona FC is a great team. They have made things difficult. With the score at 1-0, they have come close and this win has been great. Sometimes we don’t value what we’re doing. We had a great game. With their goal ruled out, we didn’t come out too after. We have had to suffer a bit but we continued to attack. One day this run will come to an end but it’s important we value what were doing. We’re enjoying this moment but are already thinking about Sporting Gijon. There’s still a long way to go."

On the table...

"This team took just six minutes to move into a position to go up. We have tightened things up at the top. I’m very happy with what we’re doing. We’ve played 11 games without losing and we must be very proud. Let’s move on, but the league is very long."

On what lies ahead...

“To go up we can’t be a team which just wins at home, we have to be able to win away from home. Without the public, the games are more equal. Girona FC has pushed us back today. We’re on the right path, and in my mind I already have Sporting Gijon and what we need to do.There are going to be five or six teams up there. Sporting Gijon is having a phenomenal season. We’re preparing the game well, but now it’s time to rest up in order to face next week.
