Luis García Plaza: “The most important thing are the points we’ve got so far’

The boss spoke to the media ahead of our clash with Logroñés on Matchday 15

Luis García Plaza says he is not concerned about being leaders at this point in the season ahead of our clash with Logroñés on Sunday afternoon.

Although we currently sit top of the Segunda División having not lost since the opening day of the season, the boss believes his side will need to be at their best to record a win against this weekend's in-form visitors.

"The important thing is not being top, but the 29 points we have accumulated,” he told media via a remote press conference. “If we don't win on Sunday, we can go from being leaders to fifth. The key is to continue with positive results and there is still a lot left [of the season]. Logroñés have won their last six games in a row which none of the teams at the top have done who are in the play-off spots or automatic promotion places.

“Logroñés is a team that treats the ball very well. They have strong players up top and they have a defensive line which is working very well. They have maintained that defence since being in Segunda B and with that they have been winning. If there is one thing we are emphasising, it is that we are strong as a whole. I have confidence in everyone. We are a very complete team.”

Following the passing of footballing legend Diego Maradona, the manager paid tribute to the former FC Barcelona and Sevilla forward.

“We have lost one of the greatest players of all time,” he continued. “Maradona was a genius. The 1986 World Cup in Mexico got me hooked on football. May he rest in peace.”
