Luis García Plaza: ‘The key to this team is ambition’

The boss spoke to media at his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with CD Castellón

Luis García Plaza has warned against complacency ahead of our clash with CD Castellón on Monday evening.

Heading into the match on the back of a last-minute winner against promotion rivals Almería, the boss says his side must keep their feet firmly on the ground despite remaining unbeaten since the opening day of the season.

"The numbers are very good,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference “Getting 35 points is the best thing of all and being a leader is nice, but that’s anecdotal. At Almería we had a great game, but that is already past. Now CD Castellón matters, the points are necessary to continue in this line.

"One day we'll lose, one day that great goal by Abdon won't come. I'm only thinking about playing at our best on Monday, and I'm not thinking about anything else. Against CD Castellón we need three points that are vital. The players are very confident and the team is in a positive dynamic - that helps things go well for us. But we know that there is a long way to go, there is a lot left. I am happy for the people, because they are enjoying themselves after last year's relegation, but we cannot lose our humility. The day we don't win is the day we don't give it our all.”

With rotations expected during a hectic early December fixture schedule, the boss has been impressed with two players in particular of late.

"Dani Rodriguez is having a spectacular season,” he continued. “He is a vital player, because he gives us many different things and he is playing very well. The other day he had a great game, despite having missed two penalties.

“At some point he will rest, but we will see. Abdón has to be calm, he knows that he can play at any time. I am satisfied with him and if he scores goals on top of that, I will be even more delighted. He is part of that group of players who know what it is like to play for Mallorca in the Segunda División, and he needs to be valued. He has a special affection for RCD Mallorca. This is football and when things do not go well, it is normal that there can be criticism.”
