Luis García Plaza: ‘Our rivals are going to demand an almost perfect season from us’

The boss looked ahead to our clash with Real Sporting in his pre-match press conference

Luis García Plaza says his side need to cautious of Real Sporting’s offensive quality ahead of our trip to El Molinón.

We head to Gijón to face a side who have not lost in their previous five fixtures, and the boss is well aware of Real Sporting’s strengths having recorded a goalless draw earlier this season at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

"They are the team that didn't suffer the most, in the first half it was the 45 minutes that a team was more superior to us,” he told journalists at a virtual press conference. “In the second half everything evened out a lot. They haven't lost at El Molinón. In the last eleven matches they have only lost one game and that's because they are doing things very well. They are one of the best in the league.

"Up front they have a very good player like Djuka who has 60% of Sporting's goals. It's one of the toughest games we have left. It's a team I like a lot. The other day Djuka didn't play and they scored two goals. They have many other virtues. We are two teams that want the ball and we like to come out from the back and play. Real Sporting is a team that doesn't mind playing on the counter-attack either.”

With the season now heading towards it’s climax, the boss believes his side cannot afford to take their eyes off the prize.

"We had five games in a row which we only took five points in the first round. If we repeat those numbers we'll be out of direct promotion, so we can't relax. The good seasons of Almeria and RCD Espanyol forces us to keep winning. It's going to be a titanic fight to the end.”
