LUIS GARCÍA PLAZA: ‘I’VE INHERITED A DRESSING ROOM MOTIVATED TO WORK’

The new manager evaluated his first two weeks working with his new squad ahead of our pre-season trip to Murcia

Luis García Plaza says his new side have shown they are willing to work ahead of our opening pre-season fixtures at a training camp in Murcia.

A select group of the squad will make the journey to the peninsular to first face Levante UD on the 27th of August before then testing ourselves against Tenerife two days later, and the boss believes his players are ready to get back out onto the pitch.

"I'm going to take the players I think can play the first league game,” he told journalists during a remote press conference. “It's not a normal pre-season. There are fewer matches and I can't give minutes to everyone, so I’m treating it as a call-up for a match. We have done a good job physically and will arrive in Murcia well in that respect. What I ask of the players is to prove from day one that the group is important, not the individual. The squad has to believe in our idea of how to play.

"I have found a healthy dressing room with players who talk a lot between themselves and with a lot of willingness to work. The relegation was a hard hit for the club but everyone is looking forward to a great year."

Training alongside the senior stars are a number of our youth players, and García has been impressed with two academy graduates in particular.

"I am delighted with Rafel Obrador, a footballer with a big future at the club and who has been a great discovery. However, we have to be clear: he's very young and he has to do more. We need some more players at full back. Luka Romero, I like very much, We have a jewel of a player in him but we have to introduce him cautiously and do it step by step."
