Luis García Plaza: ‘If we win against CD Tenerife it will be a step forward’

The manager looked ahead to our hosting of Los Blanquiazules at his pre-match press conference

Luis García Plaza has warned his side face a tough opponent in CD Tenerife this Saturday afternoon at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

We host Los Blanquiazules having recorded our first win of the season on Matchday 3, and despite having overcome this weekend’s visitors 2-0 during our pre-season preparations little over a month ago, García says building on previous results could hold they key to getting all three points.

“CD Tenerife is a difficult opposition and very tough,” he told journalists via a remote pre-match press conference. "In pre-season we had a very even game against them. It’s a very aggressive team and that doesn’t stop playing. It’s a physical team, but with players of quality too.

“The game against RCD Espanyol showed us how we should compete in Segunda División. We must insist on getting the result. The team is happier and more cheerful after getting that first win of the season. I'm sure our team is going to get to that moment where they are scoring in every game for five or six matches in a row.”

While we’re set to lose Lago Junior, Martin Valjent, Aleksandar Trajkovski, Ante Budimir and Iddrisu Baba ahead of next week’s round of international fixtures, García believes such call-ups are a testimony to the quality within his squad.

"The Segunda División is very important and that shows that we have five internationals called up by their countries," he continued. "That’s something that has never happened to me in the Segunda División before."
