Luis García Plaza: ‘Ending the year in first is something we all would have signed up for’

The boss spoke to the media at his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with CF Fuenlabrada

Luis García Plaza believes ending 2020 top of the table would be the perfect way to end a difficult year ahead of our clash with CF Fuenlabrada on Saturday evening.

The visitors have unfortunately suffered from an outbreak of COVID-19 prior to the match, and the boss was keen to wish a speedy recovery to those affected in a side which he believes are among the most dangerous in the division.

"We want to wish the person affected by the positive in Fuenlabrada to recover as soon as possible,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “I’m convinced that all the protocols have been put in place so that there will be no more cases, which is now the most important thing.

"They are a very physical team, the most effective in counter-attack transitions. I think it's a team that will finish from mid-table upwards. It's true that they will come at us having lost three times, but that doesn't change anything. The team has been putting in tremendous performances. We have to do our homework and not think about any direct confrontations. Ending the year in direct promotion is something we would have all signed up for. If on top of that we can extend the distance, even better. We need put in one last bit of effort before resting for a few days"

Having also drawn CF Fuenlabrada in the second round of the Copa del Rey, the boss shared his thoughts on our trip to the Estadio Fernando Torres early next year.

"I'm happy not to play on artificial turf again but I would have liked to have been able to play in the cup at home. Especially if the fans were allowed on the pitch. Fuenlabrada will be a difficult rival, it is a good team."
