Lago Junior: 'The goal was for the boss for always having confidence in me'

The goalscorer and Fran Gàmez spoke to the press following a memorable 1-0 victory against Real Madrid

Lago Junior and Fran Gàmez spoke to journalists at their post-match press conference following a memorable win against Los Blancos at Son Moix. Find out what the pair had to say below:

Lago Junior

“It’s a very important victory that gets us out of the relegation zone. We have won against Real Madrid but still nothing has been achieved yet - there is a long way to go in the league and we have to keep working, but we deserve to enjoy this historic night.

“Scoring always gives you a boost and something to continue adding to. In my case it has been a long time without scoring and I’m very happy. When things have gone badly Vicente Moreno has always had confidence in me. The goal is for him and for believing in me.

“We have been a humble and hardworking side with things clear. We are doing things well but not everything. We knew that we would be able to hit Real Madrid on the counter attack and that's how the first goal came.”

Fran Gàmez:

“I’m very happy. Two years ago I came to play against RCD Mallorca in Segunda B and even then I thought it was outrageous. Playing against Real Madrid with the stadium full is an immense happiness.”

“I thought that being on the right of defence there was a possibility I would face Vinicius and I think that I adapted well.

“The boss told us that we had to believe in ourselves. We knew that we were going to have chances and we would be able to get them. The goal as soon as we started gave us a huge boost.

"We have won against Real Madrid but we have added three points the same. Next Saturday we have to go to Leganés to win as they will be a rival of ours throughout everything in La Liga.”
