Clément Grenier: "Playing in La Liga is a big moment in my career"

Our new midfielder spoke for the first time with club media on his move to the island

Clément Grenier says he can’t wait to get started for his new club following his free transfer.

The attacking midfielder put pen to paper on a deal that will run for the remainder of the season in February, but believes his experience can help the team in our fight for survival.

“It is a big moment in my career to be able to challenge myself in another league," he told club media. "I have played in Ligue 1 and Serie A. Now I am lucky enough to feature in La Liga which for me it means a lot.

“RCD Mallorca is a club that gives me a great deal of confidence. I have to thank them for the trust they have had in me and to be able to start with my new team-mates. I really want to play and I miss it very much.

"I'm really looking forward to getting started, La Liga is a very interesting championship and I'm lucky to have played against some big Spanish teams during my career in the Champions League and Europa League. I know the technical level they have and the intensity you have to bring to each game. I can't wait to start playing.”

Having been capped five times by the French national side, our new signing has quickly settled into the squad with the help of a few team-mates.

"The team has welcomed me super well, I am very grateful for that,” he continued. “Obviously, there is still the language barrier, but I'm trying to say a few words in Spanish so they understand me.

“I'm lucky to have Sergio and Amath to help me translate into French and help me understand some words in Spanish. I think that little by little, we will be able to understand each other better and better and, more importantly, understand each other on the pitch. I'm really looking forward to making my debut with them.

"It's a challenge - every game and every moment of my career is important for me. Playing in La Liga is important, but what's more important I think is to stay in this division. You have to give everything and it's true that I've been lucky enough to play for very big clubs during my career. Now I want to help the team and give 100% for this shirt.”

Joining the club amid a fight for survival, Clément says he is ready to give his all to help us reach safety.

“The situation is not the best, when we don't win games or we don't win points it's not easy, but we have to keep the confidence and there are very good players," he added. “I have watched the training sessions and I have attended the games against Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo. There are things to pay attention to but I have confidence in the team.

"I think small details need to be fixed but, apart from that, I hope we can turn things around in the right direction very quickly. We have to keep our confidence, our heads up and our objectives in mind.

"Thank you for your welcome and your nice messages on social networks. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the stadium. We will need everyone until the end to stay in La Liga. See you soon... Visca Mallorca!"
