Arrasate: ‘We have to put our hopes for Europe into practice on the pitch tomorrow’

The boss looked ahead to our fixture against Girona on Monday evening

Jagoba Arrasate was on pre-match press conference duties this Sunday ahead of our game against Girona FC on Monday evening. Find out what the boss had to say below:

On playing with the ball: There have been better and worse days, but we put the emphasis on that. When we've had good moments on the ball, our opponents have suffered. We try to do it every game, but you're not always fluent and because the rival invites you to do other things.

On Girona: I expect the best Girona. We're probably more confident than them because of their position in the table, but we're talking about a great team with a very good coach. In Leganés they changed the way they played a bit, but I expect a recognisable Girona. We will have to play a great game to win there.

On absentees and the returns of Muriqi and Asano: Morlanes is going to miss a few weeks and Robert has taken a big step, but I don't see him yet to compete. Asano and Muriqi have had a full week and are available for tomorrow.

On Abdón: It's an important injury and with three weeks left, it's not going to be easy for him to play. If he can't contribute on the pitch, he will contribute from outside.

On defence: We're going to see how they play. They progress very well in the game and we need them not to be comfortable and not to flow between the lines, because if the ball comes out they have one-on-one situations. They have many ways to get on the scoresheet and I hope we are good defensively and for that we need everyone.

On the goalkeeper: Dominik Greif will play tomorrow. When the season is over we will evaluate all the individual situations. Right now it's all about the collective. We have two great goalkeepers and Cuellar is tight at the back. Now we have solutions and in the summer we will see the situation of each one. There are only three weeks left and we have to focus on the group, as the strength is there.

On the fight for Europe: The margin for error is minimal and we have the opportunity to turn a good season into a great season and tomorrow is the first chance.

On playing in Europe: It's something that excites and motivates us all. There have been players here who have been in Segunda B with this same crest, so imagine what it would be like to take this crest to Europe. We have to show that excitement on the pitch tomorrow.

On staying up for another season: Since we take it for granted, we don't think about it and look up. It's a blessed thought that we don't remember those things. That in itself is good news. That's the most important thing. The viability of the club depends on staying in the First Division. The season is going to be a good one, but we all have the feeling that it could be a great season, and since we can have one thing, we're going to try to go for the other.
