Antonio Raíllo, Dani Rodríguez and Jagoba Arrasate evaluated our 4-0 defeat to Villarreal CF on Monday evening. Find out what the trio had to say below:
Antonio Raíllo:
On the match: Negative words, I don't think we were up to what was required. It was a very bad seven minutes, although they also scored. In the end you create spaces and gaps, it can't be that in your own area there are three opponents against two defenders. These are mistakes that have to be corrected, they are very correctable and can be easily solved.
On the second half: It's not enough. We have to look at the overall. At 4-0, they might also take their foot off the accelerator. The overall game was bad and that's what we have to look at. You have to look at yourself in the mirror and know what you have done well and what you have done badly and from there look at the collective.
On three consecutive defeats: As always, more work than ever, we have to roll up our sleeves and learn from our mistakes. In the end, every team has bad moments and we had them today. From there we have to analyse it, work on it and improve as a unit and as a family.
Jagoba Arrasate:
On the game: We have to show our faces, we're upset, disappointed and I'm the first one who can't stand myself. I don't think we can't allow Villarreal to make things so easy for us, beyond Villarreal's success. In 8 minutes they scored four goals and that's unacceptable in the first division.
On the first half: If I think I made a mistake in my approach, fine, or in my intensity, anything goes when you concede four goals in eight minutes. What we have to do is wake up. We've had three consecutive defeats with 10 goals conceded and none scored. This is not the way forward, we have to go back to what we have already done. We're lucky to be playing in front of our own fans, which we also need, and let's see if we can show our faces and give our fans some joy on Saturday.
On the changes: The idea was to protect the players who were cautioned or warned and to make at least a decent second half. However, it was too late and the game was already lost.
On returning home: Now we deserve to have a bad time because we played a bad game. The good thing is that Saturday is just around the corner, that we're playing at home again after a month and that's the best thing that can happen to us right now.
Dani Rodríguez:
On the match: The first thing is to apologise to all the fans who travelled and to those who stayed at home. I think that today's image doesn't correspond to the group and the club and it can't be repeated.
On the goals conceded: Not only that, but the start of 2025 is not good at all. Today the image is not good and we have to be self-critical, that everyone individually looks at their own navel and try to get the best out of each one of us in the remainder of the game. There's a lot left, that's the good thing about this league and we have to show what we are as a group.
On the next home game: Yes, we're looking forward to going home. We need them, in the end it's everybody's thing and this is a bad moment. We need the atmosphere to be very good with us and we are going to try to live up to that.
On Martin Valjent: It's a pity, it's an action that is absolutely uncalled for and even more so at 4-0. You have to know how to manage those actions when you're winning and I think it's totally superfluous.
