Javier Aguirre: “We have turned a page and are motivated to face FC Barcelona

The boss looks ahead to our clash with FC Barcelona

Javier Aguirre says his side are ready to bounce back ahead of our hosting of FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening.

Having suffered a 5-3 loss to Girona over the weekend, Aguirre is keen to see his side respond with a positive performance.

"The team turned a page,” Aguirre told journalists. “We are fine. Everyone is motivated and wants to play against Barcelona. I don't need to motivate them. I would be taking things for granted if I said we will go out to win the match to give our people some joy, although that would be very good news. We're already looking forward to going out onto the pitch.

"I do my job to the best of my ability. What is not in your hands is to lose energy. I notice that the team has trusted me from minute one until today. I notice the respect and trust and that is the same confidence I have in them. There are no doubts.”

We will be without Omar Mascarell and Toni Lato for our clash, while the boss believes reigning champions Barcelona pose a difficult challenge.

"We saw two matches in which Barça suffered: Getafe and Celta,” said Aguirre. “They are two ways of being able to counter them. Seeing examples of what the rivals do, in addition to our virtues, we have tried to design something to see if it is possible to counter Barça.

“It is difficult. It is very difficult. They haven't lost and they are doing very well, but we will play 11 against 11, we are at home, we are beaten, we have to do our best and we will see if we are capable of rising to the occasion.”
