2x1 Endimoniats: Mateo Joseph

The forward discussed his adaptation to the club and island and the season so far

The Endimoniats podcast premieres its second season with Mateo Joseph.

In this episode, our striker reviews the key moments of his personal and sporting journey, from his childhood in Santander to his arrival at Mallorca, including his time in the Premier League and his debut with the Spanish national team.

Throughout the episode, Mateo recalls the importance of family support on his path. He talks about the role of his parents—his greatest motivation since childhood—and how growing up surrounded by sisters taught him to get along with others, be resourceful, and never get bored. Laughing, he confesses that if he hadn't become a footballer, he would have liked to be a DJ.

The striker also reminisces about his first steps at Racing Santander, the initial difficulties, and the first call that opened doors for him. There, he forged a lasting friendship: his bond with Pablo Torre, with whom he would later reunite, this time at Mallorca. That family and competitive environment shaped his character: "My parents' advice was always the same: keep going," he says in the podcast.

His departure from Santander marked a turning point. The experience in England, his years at Leeds United, and living in the residence taught him discipline, independence, and resilience. He fondly remembers his debut with the first team, in a packed stadium with the away section filled with Leeds fans. He also relives the year he celebrated winning the Champions League, a period he describes as formative both personally and professionally.

The under-21 international explains how he approaches competition, his matchday routines, and how he handles pressure. He doesn't follow superstitions, but he does maintain two constants: praying and thinking about the team. Among his favorite off-field treats is a classic: air-fried potatoes. One of the most emotional moments of the episode is when he talks about the national team.

He admits that the call-up from England excited him, but states emphatically: “My dream is to play for Spain. I feel more Spanish.” His debut with the Spanish national team—and his goal—occupy a special place in the episode.

Now, focusing on Mallorca, Mateo emphasizes the importance of finding a place where he and his family feel comfortable. He explains that, after a difficult period at Leeds, he knew he wanted to come to RCD Mallorca from his very first conversation with the coach and the sporting director: “They knew me, they wanted me, and that weighed heavily in their decision.”

The striker also talks about adapting to the dressing room, the teammates he connects with most, and what Jagoba Arrasate's confidence in him means. In the final segments of the episode, he reflects on decision-making, criticism, maturity, and what he hopes for in the future, without forgetting a key question: “Who is Mateo Joseph?”

With this first episode, Endimoniats kicks off a new season, once again bringing Mallorca fans closer to the more human side of our squad.
