Vicente Moreno: ‘We’ve worked hard and got our reward’

The boss reflected on an important three points and the league table as we beat Levante U.D. 2-0 at Visit Mallorca Estadi

We overcame Levante U.D. 2-0 in the first of our four remaining games as we fight for survival. Cucho Hernández and Take Kubo got the goals on the night, but Vicente Moreno was on hand to discuss our performance, what that means for our league position and fighting for survival. See what the boss had to say below:

On the performance...

"We've started very well with three or four attacks in the first ten minutes. Keep in mind that we played in front of a team with a lot of quality. We've worked for it, we’ve been in search of it, and we've got that reward. We’re in La Liga, and you have to suffer. You have to give your everything to win. Of the teams near the bottom, we’re among those to have won the most matches and a clean sheet helps today.

“There is always a chance to win when you’re helped by keeping a clean sheet. On a defensive level, we’ve been good and we’ve had that bit of luck. We’ve reached the conclusion having had a few difficult moments but we believe in our chances and have that desire to improve. A clean sheet make it easier for you and give you the chance to get a point. The most important thing is that the players leave everything out there. The joy is in the reward and that effort has been rewarded. In situations like ours, the result is important. We will get no respite and must now think of Sevilla – it won’t be easy."

On where that leaves us...

"The most important thing is that the players leave everything out there. The joy is in the reward and that effort has been rewarded. In situations like ours, the result is important. We will get no respite and must now think of Sevilla – it won’t be easy. It’s a matter of winning your matches. It’s true that we must keep an eye on others, but you that everyone is having their difficulties and the important thing is we get points. We must do our job and get as many points as possible. I see confidence in the players and we’re going to fight for it. We’ll carry on [this way].

“We don’t need to watch our rivals; we’ve got to worry about winning our matches and getting closer to them. They have the advantage over us and by not playing against them we will have to look at them, but we must focus on ourselves. A percentage of 13% to save ourselves may be too great or small, but there’s a chance. Depending on how the things are at the end of each Matchday, that may increase and come the end of the week we could have an even bigger chance of achieving that goal."
