RCD Mallorca record emphatic 5-0 win over AT Santa Catalina

Enric Martínez’s brace and goals from Thomas Giaquinto, Andreu Hernández and Jesus Ocaña secured victory in Son Bibiloni

RCD Mallorca B returned to winning ways with a convincing 5-0 victory over AT Santa Catalina at Ciudad Deportiva Antonio Asensio.

Looking to end a run of two consecutive defeats following a 3-2 loss at Platges de Calvía Julián Robles made six changes to his side. Raul Parra, Jesus Ocaña, Josep Gaya, Adrián Montalban, Carlos Gilbert and Jaime De Las Marinas Gil replaced Pablo Jose, Alberto Redondo, Fran Gonzalez, Oscar Coll, Erik Rafeal and Karim El Kounni in the starting XI.

With proceedings tightly-contested from the first whistle, it took a stroke of genius from Enric Martínez to separate the two sides with a wonderfully placed free-kick on the 15th minute.

Those in attendance would have to wait until the 28th minute before we had our next shot on target, although with Raul Parra flashing the ball across goal following a marauding run forward, Thomas Giaquinto could make no mistake from a few yards out to double our lead.

Parra later almost turned from provider to goal scorer before the break, but we went into the dressing room two goals to the good.

Looking to put the game beyond doubt early in the second half, half-time substitute Karim El Kounni almost had an instant impact when he cleverly found Montalaban with space inside the box to force the visiting goalkeeper into a fine save.

Martinez would once again prove to be the thorn in Santa Catalina ATC’s side just before the hour mark, first winning and then converting a penalty to take his tally to three goals in last two games.

The midfielder was later denied his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining, as following the referee’s decision to award the afternoon’s second penalty for shirt pulling in the box, Andreu Hernández stepped up to convert from 12 yards.

Jesus Ocaña capped off a convincing performance in the 86th minute when he found the bottom corner to score his first goal of the season following a scintillating run from Giaquinto on the flank.
